Registering for the Psychology Practicum

PSYC4813 Psychology Practicum is conducted as an independent study and has a different registration process than the typical RMU class.

If you are thinking about your practicum but don't know where to start, contact the Psychology Graduate Assistant (psychassistant@rmu.edu) for an individual meeting with a practicum mentor or attend one of our practicum search virtual webinars offered each semester through "RMU PSYCHOLOGY presents: Let's Talk."

  1. Once you have found a site willing to take you on for the practicum (paid or unpaid - it doesn't matter), the first step is to contact our Psychology Graduate Assistant (psychassistant@rmu.edu) for a copy of the practicum application. The application requires you to have identified a site and have received verbal approval from the site to have taken you on as an intern.

  2. You will next ask one of the full-time faculty members (Dr. Monda, Dr. Neuman-Boone, Dr. Pandit, Dr. Paul, or Dr. Wheeler) to serve as your practicum mentor for the academic components of the course (i.e., the person who will provide guidance about course requirements and who will be responsible for giving you your practicum grade).

  3. To complete your application, attach a copy of your updated resume, your current checksheet (copy/paste from Sentry into a word document, then convert to a pdf), and a paragraph with a job description of your site responsibilities and what you will essentially be doing. Please return your completed application electronically to the PGA (psychassistant@rmu.edu).

  4. Once complete, Dr. Monda will review your application and fill out the paperwork to get you registered for the course.

  5. Please note that starting for Summer 2021, all students will need to have an affiliation agreement in place with the site prior to beginning their hours. At the time that your application is submitted, we will be contacting your site to get the agreement in place. Please note that this process may take time, therefore, it is important to get your placement in advance of the semester. Students will not be able to begin their hours without a signed agreement in place.
